The Orchestra
We think of ourselves not just as an orchestra, but also as a cultural institution. We exist not only to bring classical music closer to our inquisitive audience, but are exploring new paths: we play in towns and communities, in unusual locations and explore unconventional forms of performance.
It is our mission to bring concerts to people living in areas where, due to regional circumstances, concerts do not regularly take place. In addition the Neue Philharmonie is committed to an education programme, providing concerts in junior schools for a new generation of potential musicians and classical music fans. It is important to us to make children part of our musical culture. In Berlin the Neue Philharmonie has a regular musical home in the Siemens Villa, and frequently gives concerts in the Berlin Philharmonie and Konzerthaus. The orchestra was founded as a non-profit-making organization in 2016 in Berlin, and is active in several other federal states. Its repertoire consists mainly of works from the Classical and Romantic periods, for around 35 or more players, depending on the piece. The players include many young musicians fresh out of music college, gaining their first professional experience.
